Regular Season Round 32: Chalons-Reims - Pau-Lacq-Orthez 78-97
Date: May 9, 2017
There was no surprise when 14th ranked Chalons-Reims (10-22) was outleveled at home by fifth ranked Pau-Lacq-Orthez (22-10) 97-78 on Tuesday. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 6-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 97-78. Pau-Lacq-Orthez looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 18 passes made by Chalons-Reims' players. The winners were led by American-Nigerian power forward Danny Agbelese (206-90, college: Hampton) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and American point guard DJ Cooper (183-90, college: Ohio) supported him with 4 points and 16 assists. Even 20 points and 4 assists by American point guard Jerry Smith (188-87, college: Louisville, agency: HMS) did not help to save the game for Chalons-Reims. His fellow American import power forward Tyler Cain (203-88, college: S.Dakota) added 11 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Pau-Lacq-Orthez moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Strasbourg. Loser Chalons-Reims keeps the fourteenth position with 22 games lost. They share it with Dijon and Hyeres-Toulon. Pau-Lacq-Orthez will meet at home higher ranked JSF Nanterre (#3) in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Chalons-Reims will play against Le Mans (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
