Regular Season Round 29: Tijuana - Los Mochis 97-90

Rather expected game when 6th ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (12-16) were defeated on the road by fourth ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (14-12) 97-90. It looked good early as Pioneros Los Mochis took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Tijuana Zonkeys had a 26-16 second period charge getting the lead and Pioneros Los Mochis were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 90-97. Tijuana Zonkeys shot 64.5 percent from the field. Tijuana Zonkeys had a 32-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists. Tijuana Zonkeys brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Americans were the main players on the court. Guard Trayvon Lathan (201-84, college: Chowan) orchestrated the victory by scoring 26 points (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field). Swingman Marcus Morrison (198-84, college: Middle Tenn.St.) contributed with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists (perfect from the field making all six shots) for the winners. Lathan is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Forward Terrance Motley (201-91, college: Sam Houston St.) answered with 25 points and 7 rebounds and forward Cameron Forte (201-93, college: Portland St.) added 14 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Pioneros Los Mochis. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Tijuana Zonkeys moved-up to third place. Pioneros Los Mochis at the other side dropped to the seventh position with 16 games lost. Tijuana Zonkeys' next round opponent will be league's second-placed Halcones de Ciudad Obregon on the road and it will be for sure the game of the week. Pioneros Los Mochis will play against the league's leader Rayos de Hermosillo (#1) and hope to win that game.
