There was an upset when much higher ranked Geelong Supercats (8-4) were defeated at home by sixth ranked NW Tasmania Thunder (4-8) 92-87 on Friday. NW Tasmania Thunder shot 26 for 37 from the free-throw line, while Geelong Supercats only scored eight points from the stripe. Geelong Supercats were plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. Guard Daniel Sepokas (190-90, college: Lees-McRae) stepped up and scored 17 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and power forward Chudier Pal (205-91, college: NC-Asheville) chipped in 13 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks. Five NW Tasmania Thunder players scored in double figures. At the losing side the former international swingman Nathan Herbert (192-84) responded with 23 points and American guard Demarcus Gatlin (193, college: Sam Houston St.) scored 15 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. NW Tasmania Thunder will face league's second-placed Ballarat Miners in Wendouree in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Geelong Supercats will play on the road against Kilsyth Cobras and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
