The game between closely ranked teams ended with second ranked Geelong Supercats' (8-3) home victory over 3rd placed Tornadoes (7-3) 95-59 on Friday. It was a key game for the top position in League. Geelong Supercats dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Tornadoes' 38. They outrebounded Tornadoes 51-26 including a 36-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Geelong Supercats looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Tornadoes' players. It was a great evening for international forward Sara Blicavs (188-93) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 11 rebounds. Naturalized British center Alexandra Bunton (198-93) helped adding 14 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Geelong Supercats players scored in double figures. Geelong Supercats' coach felt very confident using 10 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Power forward Tayla Roberts (191-93) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds and guard Lauren Mansfield (170-89, college: Iowa St., agency: ProDep Management) scored 11 points and 5 rebounds. Geelong Supercats keep a position of League leader. Loser Tornadoes keep the third place with three games lost. Geelong Supercats will face Spectres (#3) in East Burwood in the next round, which may be the game of the day.
