Everything went according to plan when eighth ranked Cougars (4-7) beat on the road 10th ranked Venom (2-10) 56-51 on Saturday. It was a great evening for American guard Ariel Thomas (168, college: Oregon) who led her team to a victory scoring 22 points. Her fellow American import Morgan Pullins (183, college: St.Mary's, TX, agency: Two Points) helped adding 13 points and 12 rebounds. Center Amanda Meinking (192-96) responded with 8 points and 21 rebounds and Meg Dargan scored 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Venom's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Cougars maintains eighth place in League with 4-7 record. Loser Venom keeps the tenth position with ten games lost. Cougars will face league's second-placed Knox Raiders in Wantirna South in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Venom will play at home against Diamond Valley Eagles (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
