Not a big story in a game in Joondalup where 11th ranked Hawks (5-9) were defeated by fourth ranked Wanneroo (10-3) 81-71 on Saturday. Wanneroo looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Naturalized Irish center Damian Matacz (204-79, college: N.Michigan) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and power forward Robert Huntington (203, college: Nova SE) chipped in 13 points and 9 rebounds. Four Wanneroo players scored in double figures. At the losing side guard Matthew Adekponya (194-90) responded with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and American center Brian Carlwell (211-87, college: San Diego St.) produced a double-double by scoring 13 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Wanneroo moved-up to third place in League. Loser Hawks keep the eleventh position with nine games lost. Wanneroo will face Stirling S. (#5) in Perth in the next round. Hawks will play at home against Eagles (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
