Date: June 1, 2017
An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Quibdo-Choco. Top-ranked Cimarrones faced 3rd ranked Sabios. Host Cimarrones (4-0) defeated guests from Manizales (3-3) 72-66. Sabios were ahead by 2 points at the halftime before a 25-14 third quarter run of Cimarrones. They also forced 20 Sabios turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. It was a good game for American swingman Jay Hardy (196, college: Shippensburg) who led his team to a victory with 23 points and 5 rebounds. The former international center John Hernandez (207-84) contributed with 15 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Canadian guard Shamar Coombs (185-86, college: Texas A&M-CC) replied with 22 points and 4 assists and Canadian guard Ashton Smith (187-89, college: Indiana, PA) added 23 points in the effort for Sabios. Sabios' coach Ruddy Martinez rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Cimarrones have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 4-0 record. Sabios at the other side keep the third place with three games lost. They share the position with Condores. Cimarrones will play against bottom-ranked Academia (#8) in Montana in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Sabios will play at home against Piratas (#6) and hope to get back on the winning track.
