Regular Season Round 8: Sabios - Piratas 57-63

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Sabios (4-4) against eighth ranked Piratas (3-5) on Sunday night. Host Sabios were defeated by Piratas in a tough game in Manizales 57-63. The guests trailed by 7 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 63-57. Piratas forced 23 Sabios turnovers. The winners were led by Dominican guard Adonis Nunez (191-96) who scored that evening 18 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals and Venezuelan forward Jhon Romero (199-85) supported him with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Even 16 points and 6 rebounds by naturalized American guard Ricardo Rivera (190-91, college: Voorhees) did not help to save the game for Sabios. Forward John Velez (202-83, college: TCU) added 8 points and 11 rebounds for the hosts. Sabios' coach Ruddy Martinez rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Piratas moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Condores. Loser Sabios dropped to the fourth position with four games lost. Piratas will meet at home higher ranked Academia (#5) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Sabios will play against Condores and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
