Regular Season Round 9: Piratas - Academia 76-85

The game in Bogota was also quite interesting. Fifth ranked Academia (4-3) played at the court of 7th ranked Piratas (3-6). Academia managed to secure a 9-point victory 85-76 on Saturday. Academia dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Piratas' 36. The best player for the winners was Dominican Oscar Balbuena (195-94, agency: Basket Management Solutions) who scored 28 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international power forward Beyckar Aguaslimpias (204-88) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Five Academia players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Brandon Givens (198-87, college: NC-Wesleyan) who recorded 27 points and 5 rebounds and Venezuelan forward Jhon Romero (199-85) added 15 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Academia. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Cimarrones and Caciques. Loser Piratas dropped to the bottom position with six games lost. They share it with Aguilas and Condores. Academia will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Piratas will play again against Academia (#3) and hope to secure a win.
