Regular Season Round 7: Lanus - Penarol 80-49

Rather predictable result when second ranked Lanus (7-1) smashed at home bottom-ranked Penarol (0-9) 80-49 on Tuesday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 80-49. Lanus dominated on the defensive end, holding Penarol to just 5 points in fourth quarter. It was a great evening for forward Florencia Llorente (180-94) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. International power forward Agostina Burani (184-91) helped adding 15 points and 11 rebounds. Four Lanus players scored in double figures. Lanus' coach Laura Cors felt very confident using entire bench and allowed the starting five to get some rest. At the losing side American guard Kama Griffitts (183-91, college: Arizona) responded with 12 points and 8 rebounds and Croatian center Jovana Mandic (193-92, college: Nicholls St., agency: ProDep Management) scored 11 points and 8 rebounds. Lanus have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion maintains second place in Sur with 7-1 record behind leader Union Florida. Loser Penarol still closes the standings with nine games lost. Lanus will face Estrella Berisso (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Penarol will play against Velez S. in Sarsfield and hopes to get finally their first victory.
