Regular Season Round 16: Perry Lakes H. - Joondalup Wolves 91-79

There was a surprise result when tenth ranked Hawks (8-10) beat higher ranked Wanneroo (13-5) in Floreat 91-79 on Friday. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 91-79. Hawks looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Wanneroo's players. It was a very good performance for the former international forward Ben Purser (201-90, college: Augusta) who helped to win the game recording 17 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. American point guard Robert Waters (185-93, college: Wayland Baptist) contributed with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners. Canadian power forward Ryan Wright (206-87, college: Oklahoma) replied with 24 points and 5 rebounds and the former international guard Reece Maxwell (186-90) added 19 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Wanneroo. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Hawks moved-up to eighth place in League. Loser Wanneroo keeps the third position with five games lost. Hawks will face higher ranked Cougars (#6) in Hamilton Hill in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Wanneroo will play on the road against the league's leader Buccaneers having rather not much hope for a victory.
