The game between closely ranked teams ended with second-ranked Meteorettes' (8-2) road loss to first ranked Logan Thunder (8-1) in Loganholme 69-88 on Saturday. It was a key game for the top position in League. Logan Thunder dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Meteorettes' 46. Forward Cassie Smith (180-89) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points and 7 assists. Guard Kate Gaze (173-90, college: St.Mary's, CA) contributed with 14 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Logan Thunder players scored in double figures. Forward Tami Willey (183-79) replied with 26 points and 5 rebounds and New Zealand guard Micaela Cocks (174-86, college: Oregon) added 11 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) in the effort for Meteorettes. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Logan Thunder maintains first position in League with 8-1 record. Loser Meteorettes dropped to the third place with two games lost. Logan Thunder will face Pirates (#8) in Runcorn in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Meteorettes will play at home against Power (#6) and hope to win that game.
