Not a big story in a game when 8th ranked Cougars (5-8) were outscored by fifth ranked Falcons (9-5) in McKinnon 79-60 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Falcons. Cougars was better in second period 20-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Falcons dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Cougars' 30. Falcons forced 21 Cougars turnovers. Forward Jackie Vanderzaag (184-88) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. Tegan Cunninghan contributed with 20 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners. Falcons' coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American Morgan Pullins (183, college: St.Mary's, TX, agency: Two Points) replied with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Claire Ioannidis (170, college: N.Florida) added 11 points and 4 assists in the effort for Cougars. Falcons moved-up to fourth place in League. Loser Cougars keep the eighth position with eight games lost. Falcons will face Diamond Valley Eagles (#10) in Greensborough in the next round where they are favorite. Cougars will play on the road against Hume City Broncos in Tullamarine and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
