Regular Season Round 16: Corio Bay S. - Waverley F. 80-90

Everything went according to plan when third ranked Waverley Falcons (11-4) defeated 10th ranked Stingrays (4-9) in Geelong 90-80 on Saturday. Waverley Falcons forced 20 Stingrays turnovers and outrebounded them 49-38 including 16 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a very good performance for guard Jason Reardon (189-83) who helped to win the game recording 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. American forward Brandon Beasley (196-88, college: William Penn) contributed with 11 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Beasley is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Waverley Falcons' coach used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American power forward Jordan Latham (206-91, college: Loyola, MD) replied with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Michael Rebula (189-90) added 14 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists in the effort for Stingrays. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Waverley Falcons maintains third position in League with 11-4 record having just nine point less than leader Mackay M. Loser Stingrays dropped to the eleventh place with nine games lost. Waverley Falcons will face Diamond Valley Eagles (#9) in Greensborough in the next round where they are favorite. Stingrays will play on the road against Devils in Werribee and hope to win that game.
