Regular Season Round 16: Goldfields G. - Kalamunda E.S. 89-98

Date: June 17, 2017
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 12th ranked Giants (5-11) lost to thirteenth ranked Suns (5-16) in Kalgoorlie 89-98 on Saturday. Suns forced 21 Giants turnovers and had a 16-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a very good performance for American guard Rob Brandenberg (188-92, college: VCU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Power forward Ryan Blanchett (202-96) contributed with 25 points for the winners. American power forward Jacob Holmen (202-91, college: N.Texas) replied with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 16 rebounds and 7 assists (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) and his fellow American import forward JB Pillard (201, college: Cent.Washington) added 20 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) in the effort for Giants. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Suns maintains thirteenth position in League with 5-16 record. Loser Giants keep the twelfth place with 11 games lost. Suns will face higher ranked Slammers (#5) in Bunbury in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
