We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when their biggest opponent Chargers (10-5) lost to third ranked Ballarat Miners (10-5) in Wendouree 76-81 on Saturday. Ballarat Miners outrebounded Chargers 42-28 including 31 on the defensive glass. It was a very good performance for forward Craig Moller (206-94, agency: MKP Management) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Peter Hooley (193-92, college: Albany) contributed with 13 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals for the winners. American swingman Robert Heyer (190, college: Boise St.) replied with 22 points and 6 rebounds and naturalized South Sudanese swingman Mathiang Muo (196-87, college: Charleston So.) added 15 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Chargers. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Ballarat Miners moved-up to second place in League which they share with defeated Chargers. Ballarat Miners will face Canberra Gunners (#7) in Belconnen in the next round where they are favorite. Chargers will play at home against Bandits (#5) and hope to win that game.
