Regular Season Round 16: Bankstown B. - Illawarra H. 97-57

Very expected game when 9th ranked Hawks (4-9) were smashed by second ranked Bankstown Bruins (10-4) in Condell Park 97-57 on Saturday. Bankstown Bruins dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Hawks' 28. Bankstown Bruins forced 20 Hawks turnovers. Quite impressive performance for Svetomir Gavrilovic who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds. The former international guard Steven Markovic (190-85) contributed with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. Five Bankstown Bruins players scored in double figures. Point guard Lachlan Dent (184-0) replied with 13 points and Jarrod Sorenson added 7 points and 12 rebounds in the effort for Hawks. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Bankstown Bruins maintains second position in League with 10-4 record having just seven point less than leader Mackay M. Loser Hawks keep the ninth place with nine games lost. Bankstown Bruins will face Manly Warringah Sea Eagles (#4) in Narrabeen in the next round. Hawks will play at home against Newcastle Hunters (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
