There was a minor upset when 7th ranked Sabres (4-9) lost to seventh ranked Ballarat Rush (1-7) in Cheltenham 87-92 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 16 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 5 points. Ballarat Rush outrebounded Sabres 41-29 including a 32-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Sabres were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Jaterra Bonds (170-92, college: Florida) orchestrated the victory by scoring 39 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 4 assists. The other American import center Joy Burke (196-90, college: Arizona St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 18 rebounds for the winners. Naturalized Italian guard Nicole Romeo (168-89, college: Washington) replied with 33 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 9 assists and guard Deanna Jolliffe (170-93) added 14 points in the effort for Sabres. Ballarat Rush maintains seventh position in League with 1-7 record. Loser Sabres dropped to the eighth place with nine games lost. Ballarat Rush will have a break next round. Sabres will play at home against Spectres (#3) and hope to win that game.
