There was no surprise when 10th ranked Newcastle Hunters (2-12) lost to second ranked Bankstown Bruins (10-4) in Condell Park 77-92 on Sunday. Bankstown Bruins outrebounded Newcastle Hunters 49-37 including 35 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. It was a very good performance for the former international guard Steven Markovic (190-85) who helped to win the game recording a triple-double by scoring 25 points, 12 rebounds and 13 assists. Svetomir Gavrilovic contributed with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Bankstown Bruins' coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Jakob Dorricott replied with 21 points and American swingman Dane Suttle (198-89, college: Pepperdine) added 18 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Newcastle Hunters. Four Newcastle Hunters players scored in double figures. Bankstown Bruins maintains second position in League with 10-4 record having just seven point less than leader Mackay M. Loser Newcastle Hunters keep the tenth place with 12 games lost. Bankstown Bruins will face Manly Warringah Sea Eagles (#4) in Narrabeen in the next round. Newcastle Hunters will play against Hawks (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
