Regular Season Round 16: Sandringham S. - Ballarat M. 86-92

Date: June 18, 2017
Not a big story in a game when 5th ranked Sabres (6-9) lost to third ranked Ballarat Miners (10-5) in Cheltenham 86-92 on Sunday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 29-20. But Sabres won third quarter 29-24. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Ballarat Miners made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Ballarat Miners outrebounded Sabres 46-34 including 17 on the offensive glass. It was a very good performance for forward Craig Moller (206-94, agency: MKP Management) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds. Guard Peter Hooley (193-92, college: Albany) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Four Ballarat Miners players scored in double figures. American forward Ethan O'Day (206, college: Vermont) replied with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 15 rebounds and 8 blocks and his fellow American import forward Jerry Evans (203-90, college: Nevada) added 28 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Sabres. Ballarat Miners moved-up to second place in League. Loser Sabres keep the fifth position with nine games lost. Ballarat Miners will face Canberra Gunners (#7) in Belconnen in the next round where they are favorite. Sabres will play at home against the league's leader Spectres and hope to win that game.
