Very expected game in Floreat where 8th ranked Cougars (7-11) were defeated by second ranked Hawks (14-1) 88-81 on Friday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 30-21. But Cougars won second period 23-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Cougars 36-25 including 24 on the defensive glass. Hawks looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. It was a great evening for Antonia Farnworth who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 12 rebounds and 9 assists. International power forward Natalie Burton (194-89, college: W.Virginia, agency: LBM Management) helped adding 17 points and 9 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American forward Kersten Mitchell (185-90, college: Illinois) with 23 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import guard Brianna Moyes (170, college: Akron) scored 22 points and 4 assists. Four Cougars players scored in double figures. Hawks maintains second place in League with 14-1 record having just nine point less than leader Brisbane S. Loser Cougars dropped to the seventh position with 11 games lost. Hawks will face league's leader Magic in Mandurah in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Cougars will play on the road against Redbacks (#8) in Northbridge and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
