There was an upset in Floreat where higher ranked Cougars (11-8) were defeated by tenth ranked Hawks (8-10) 94-77 on Friday. The hosts trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 16-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 94-77. Hawks made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. Hawks outrebounded Cougars 48-37 including a 35-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Guard Matthew Adekponya (194-90) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and American center Brian Carlwell (211-87, college: San Diego St.) chipped in 17 points and 12 rebounds. Five Hawks players scored in double figures. Swingman Gavin Field (202-89, college: W.Georgia) responded with 14 points and 8 rebounds and guard Seva Chan (187-94) scored 17 points and 5 assists. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Hawks moved-up to eighth place in League. Loser Cougars dropped to the fifth position with eight games lost. Hawks will face Magic (#14) in Mandurah in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Cougars will play on the road against Redbacks (#4) in Northbridge and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
