Regular Season Round 15: Illawarra H. - Newcastle H. 64-71

Rather expected game when 9th ranked Hawks (1-11) were defeated at home by sixth ranked Hunters (5-7) 71-64 on Saturday. Hunters dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Hawks' 30. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Hunters made 33 blocks. Hawks were plagued by 33 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for the former international center Suzy Batkovic-Brown (195-80) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!) and 19 blocks. Alison Ebzery helped adding 8 points and 7 rebounds. The best for the losing side was point guard Lauren Sparks (168, college: Lubbock Christian) with 20 points and 6 rebounds and guard Georgia Ohrdorf (183-95, college: Metro St.) scored 17 points and 4 assists. Hunters maintains sixth place in League with 5-7 record. Loser Hawks keep the ninth position with 11 games lost. Hunters will face Comets (#7) in Alexandria in the next round. Hawks will play on the road against the league's second-placed North Bears in Crows Nest and hope to win that game.
