There was a small surprise in Kalgoorlie where twelfth ranked Giants (6-11) won against 9th ranked Lightning (8-11) 83-73 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 7 points at the halftime before their 49-32 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Giants looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Giants made 7 blocks. American power forward Jacob Holmen (202-91, college: N.Texas) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 blocks for the winners and guard Brandon Holloway (183-93) chipped in 21 points and 7 assists. Giants' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American forward James Padgett (203-91, college: Maryland) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 16 rebounds and the other American import guard Devon Atkinson (185, college: Morehead St.) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Giants maintains twelfth place in League with 6-11 record. Loser Lightning keeps the ninth position with 11 games lost. Giants will face higher ranked Stirling S. (#7) in Perth in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
