Regular Season Round 15: Sabios - Caciques 95-87

Rather predictable result in Manizales where third ranked Sabios (8-8) defeated 6th ranked Caciques (7-7) 95-87. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 26-16. But Caciques won third quarter 19-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sabios players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Caciques were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was an exceptional evening for Canadian guard Shamar Coombs (185-86, college: Texas A&M-CC) who led the winners and scored 31 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Canadian guard Ashton Smith (187-89, college: Indiana, PA) accounted for 31 points and 7 assists for the winning side. American point guard Horace Wormely (168-84, college: Vanguard) came up with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists and naturalized Venezuelan point guard Fernando Lucena (185-86) added 17 points respectively for Caciques in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Sabios maintains third place with 8-8 record having three points less than leader Fast Break, which they share with Condores. Caciques lost their third game in a row. They keep the sixth position with seven games lost. Sabios will again play against Caciques (#6) in Valleduparnga in the next round. Caciques will have a break next round.
