Regular Season Round 17: Manly Warr. - Bankstown B. 83-93

There was no surprise in Narrabeen where 4th placed Manly Warringah Sea Eagles (8-7) were defeated by second ranked Bankstown Bruins (11-4) 93-83 on Saturday. Bankstown Bruins outrebounded Manly Warringah Sea Eagles 45-32 including a 33-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international guard Steven Markovic (190-85) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists for the winners and Svetomir Gavrilovic chipped in 19 points and 7 rebounds. Point guard Luke Cooper (183-84, college: Alaska-Anch.) responded with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and naturalized Polish swingman Stefan Blaszczynski (196-84, college: Nicholls St.) scored 14 points and 7 rebounds. Five Bankstown Bruins and four Manly Warringah Sea Eagles players scored in double figures. Manly Warringah Sea Eagles' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Bankstown Bruins maintains second place in League with 11-4 record having just seven point less than leader Mackay M. Loser Manly Warringah Sea Eagles dropped to the sixth position with seven games lost. Bankstown Bruins will face Crusaders (#8) in Terrigal in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Manly Warringah Sea Eagles will play at home against Sutherland Sharks and hope to win that game.
