Regular Season Round 17: Mackay M. - Gladstone P. 100-93

There was no surprise when 13th ranked Gladstone Port City Power (1-6) was defeated on the road by first ranked Mackay Meteors (9-1) 100-93 on Saturday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 35-23. But Gladstone Port City Power won second period 30-27. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Mackay Meteors made 22-of-27 free shots (81.5 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Guard Shaun Bruce (190-91) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 9 rebounds and 14 assists for the winners and the former international forward Lucas Walker (202-84, college: St.Mary's, CA) chipped in 23 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). American guard Ray Willis (198-89, college: N.C.Central, agency: HMS) responded with 39 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 8 assists and the other American import forward Willie Shackleford (198-85, college: Martin Methodist) scored 11 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Mackay Meteors maintains first place in League with 9-1 record. Loser Gladstone Port City Power keeps the thirteenth position with six games lost. Mackay Meteors will face league's second-placed Cairns Marlins at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week.
