The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Brisbane Spartans as it allowed them to take a leadership position in League. Brisbane Spartans smashed 12th ranked Clippers at home 97-48. Brisbane Spartans dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Clippers' 32 and had 19 for 31 from the free-throw line, while Clippers only scored one point from the stripe. Brisbane Spartans forced 29 Clippers turnovers and outrebounded them 56-36 including a 16-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Brisbane Spartans looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Clippers' players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Brisbane Spartans made 8 blocks. 25 personal fouls committed by Clippers helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for New Zealand forward Kalani Purcell (188-95, college: BYU) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 19 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Center Maddie Allen (190) helped adding 19 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks. Five Brisbane Spartans players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American center Erica Carlson (193-88, college: Dixie St.) with 10 points and 7 rebounds and Canadian guard Natalie Saunders (178-91) scored 6 points and 7 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Clippers at the other side keep the twelfth place with six games lost. Clippers will play next round against Mountaineers trying to get back on the winning streak. Brisbane Spartans will try to continue on its current victory against eleventh ranked SC Rip at home.
