Regular Season Round 16: Brisbane C. - Ipswich F. 80-109

Date: June 30, 2017
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Brisbane where 7th ranked Capitals (4-5) were rolled over by eighth ranked Force (5-6) 109-80 on Friday. Force dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Capitals' 48 and made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Force forced 21 Capitals turnovers and outrebounded them 46-27 including a 30-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 17 passes made by Capitals' players. Capitals were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Markel Walker (185-90, college: UCLA) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points, 21 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import forward Shenita Landry (188-87, college: Temple) who added 19 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. Force's coach felt very confident using 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side American guard Dlesha Lloyd (179-86, college: Clemson) responded with 14 points and 8 rebounds and Heidi Freeburn (-86) scored 17 points and 4 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Force moved-up to seventh place in League. Loser Capitals dropped to the eighth position with five games lost. Force will face higher ranked Power (#6) in Gladstone in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Capitals will play on the road against Pirates in Runcorn and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
