Regular Season Round 18: Perry Lakes H. - Perth R. 89-71

There was an upset in Floreat where higher ranked Redbacks (12-8) were defeated by eighth ranked Hawks (9-11) 89-71 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Hawks. Redbacks was better in second period 23-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. Hawks outrebounded Redbacks 57-27 including a 40-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was guard Matthew Adekponya (194-90) who had a triple-double by scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. American center Brian Carlwell (211-87, college: San Diego St.) chipped in 19 points and 9 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Marshall Nelson (188-94, college: Wayland Baptist) who recorded 23 points and guard Joel Wagner (181-87) added 9 points and 4 assists respectively. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Hawks maintains eighth position in League with 9-11 record. Loser Redbacks keep the fourth place with eight games lost. Hawks will face Suns (#13) in Kalamunda in the next round where they are favorite. Redbacks will play at home against Stirling S. (#7) and hope to win that game.
