Regular Season Round 18: NW Tasmania - Geelong S. 85-92

There was a minor upset in Ulverstone where one of their biggest challengers NW Tasmania Thunder (8-9) was defeated by fourth ranked Geelong Supercats (11-7) 92-85 on Saturday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 26-15. But NW Tasmania Thunder won third quarter 30-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Geelong Supercats dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to NW Tasmania Thunder's 44. The best player for the winners was American guard Demarcus Gatlin (193, college: Sam Houston St.) who scored 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Power forward MaAlo Hicks (201-89) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Ahmad Starks (175-92, college: Illinois) who recorded 27 points and 4 assists and his fellow American import forward Jeremiah Ingram (201-93, college: N.C.Central) added 20 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Geelong Supercats maintains fourth position in League with 11-7 record. Loser NW Tasmania Thunder dropped to the fifth place with nine games lost. Geelong Supercats will face league's second-placed Ballarat Miners in Wendouree in the next round and it may be the game of the week. NW Tasmania Thunder will play on the road against Kilsyth Cobras and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
