Not a big story in a game in Belconnen where 7th ranked Canberra Gunners (2-15) were defeated by first ranked Spectres (14-4) 97-80 on Saturday. The game without a history. Spectres led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Spectres outrebounded Canberra Gunners 44-32 including a 34-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was power forward Simon Conn (206-83, college: Gardner-Webb) who scored 26 points and 8 rebounds. Thomas Wright chipped in 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Spectres players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was center Ben Allen (211-86, college: St.Mary's, CA) who recorded 9 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists and guard Daniel Joyce (194-87) added 13 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Canberra Gunners' coach let to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Spectres maintains first position in League with 14-4 record. Loser Canberra Gunners keep the seventh place with 15 games lost. Spectres will face league's leader Mount Gambier Pioneers in Mt Gambier in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Canberra Gunners will play at home against Bendigo Braves (#3) and hope to win that game.
