Regular Season Round 5: Shaanxi W. - Guangxi 99-105

The most shocking disappointment of round 5 was a home defeat of second-ranked Shaanxi W. (3-2) to third ranked Guangxi (4-1) 105-99. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests trailed by 4 points at the halftime before their 30-15 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. 26 personal fouls committed by Shaanxi W. helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American guard Kevin Murphy (196-90, college: Tenn Tech) stepped up and scored 55 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds for the winners and Indian-Canadian center Sim Bhullar (226-92, college: N.Mexico St.) chipped in 17 points and 22 rebounds. American forward Charles Gaines (201-81, college: S.Mississippi) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 24 rebounds and the other American import guard Von Wafer (196-85, college: Florida St.) scored 32 points and 7 rebounds. Five Shaanxi W. players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guangxi keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 3 other teams. Shaanxi W. at the other side dropped to the fifth place with two games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Guangxi is looking forward to face Hebei X. (#12) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Shaanxi W. will play against the league's leader Lhasa (#1) and is hoping to win this game.
