Regular Season Round 17: Toowoomba M. - Gladstone PCP 37-66

Date: July 7, 2017
There was no surprise in Toowoomba where bottom-ranked Mountaineers (0-12) were crushed by sixth ranked Power (6-5) 66-37 on Friday. Power held Mountaineers to an opponent 17.7 percent shooting from the field compared to 36.9 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Mountaineers 53-32 including a 37-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American center Cassie Rochel (193-91, college: Wisconsin) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). Her fellow American import forward Tabatha Richardson-Smith (183, college: Seton Hall) chipped in a double-double by scoring 14 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Four Power players scored in double figures. Power's coach felt very confident using 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Francis Donders produced 15 points and 5 rebounds and American forward Ezria Parsons (183-83, college: S.Florida) added 8 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Power maintains sixth place in League with 6-5 record. Loser Mountaineers still closes the standings with 12 games lost. Power will face Cyclones (#11) in Rockhampton in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Mountaineers will play at home against the league's second-placed Logan Thunder and hope to get finally their first victory.
