No shocking result in a game when tenth ranked Gladstone Port City Power (3-7) beat on the road 14th ranked Toowoomba Mountaineers (1-11) 81-69 on Friday. Gladstone Port City Power shot 29 for 40 from the free-throw line, while Toowoomba Mountaineers only scored eight points from the stripe. They outrebounded Toowoomba Mountaineers 50-33 including 22 on the offensive glass. Toowoomba Mountaineers were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for American guard Ray Willis (198-89, college: N.C.Central, agency: HMS) who helped to win the game recording 36 points (!!!). His fellow American import forward Willie Shackleford (198-85, college: Martin Methodist) contributed with a double-double by scoring 10 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. American guard Jalil Abdul-Bassit (193, college: Oregon) answered with 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Manylok Malek (201-94) added 13 points and 12 rebounds in the effort for Toowoomba Mountaineers. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Gladstone Port City Power maintains tenth place in League with 3-7 record. Loser Toowoomba Mountaineers keep the fourteenth position with 11 games lost. Gladstone Port City Power will face higher ranked Rockhampton Rockets (#8) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Toowoomba Mountaineers will play against Logan T. (#7) and hope to win that game.
