Date: July 8, 2017
There was a small surprise in Rockhampton where twelfth ranked SC Rip (4-7) defeated 10th ranked Cyclones (4-9) 89-82 on Saturday. SC Rip forced 20 Cyclones turnovers. The best player for the winners was American guard Leah Scott (183-93, college: Marshall) who had a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds (was perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line !!!). Guard Claire OBryan (178-93, college: Bucknell) chipped in 20 points. American guard Jordan Reynolds (180-95, college: Tennessee) produced 25 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists and Christina Boag added 21 points and 16 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. SC Rip moved-up to tenth place in League. Loser Cyclones dropped to the eleventh position with nine games lost. SC Rip will face higher ranked Capitals (#8) in Brisbane in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Cyclones will play on the road against Power in Gladstone and hope to win that game.
