Regular Season Round 17: SW Metro P. - Suncoast PC 90-64

Date: July 8, 2017
Rather expected game in Runcorn where 11th ranked Clippers (3-7) were rolled over by ninth ranked Pirates (5-7) 90-64 on Saturday. Pirates made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 24 Clippers turnovers and outrebounded them 50-32 including a 17-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Pirates looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Pirates made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was swingman Stephanie Bairstow (188-94, college: Utah St.) who scored 35 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds. American center Shelby Cheslek (196-92, college: Gonzaga) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points, 22 rebounds and 5 blocks. Four Pirates players scored in double figures. American center Erica Carlson (193-88, college: Dixie St.) produced 12 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists and the other American import forward Chelsea Small (185, college: Indiana St.) added 16 points and 4 assists respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Pirates maintains ninth place in League with 5-7 record. Loser Clippers dropped to the twelfth position with seven games lost. Pirates will face higher ranked Force (#7) in Booval in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Clippers will play at home against Capitals (#8) and hope to win that game.
