Rather predictable result when sixth ranked Sturt Sabres (10-6) rolled over 9th ranked Central District Lions (2-13) in Gawler 102-65 on Saturday. Sturt Sabres dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Central District Lions' 36 and made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. Sturt Sabres looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Central District Lions' players. It was a very good performance for guard Sam Daly (193-95, college: Chaminade) who helped to win the game recording 10 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Naturalized Greek power forward Max Calligeros (197-92) contributed with 19 points for the winners. Angus Fischer answered with 8 points and 11 rebounds and American forward Ricardo Martin (203-92, college: Lander) added 12 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Central District Lions. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Sturt Sabres moved-up to fifth place in League. Loser Central District Lions keep the ninth position with 13 games lost. Sturt Sabres will face higher ranked Norwood Flames (#4) in Marden in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Central District Lions will play on the road against Woodville Warriors (#8) in Flinders Park and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
