Regular Season Round 19: Sutherland S. - Newcastle H. 74-59

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 10th ranked Newcastle Hunters (2-15) lost on the road to eleventh ranked Sutherland Sharks (2-14) 74-59 on Saturday. Sutherland Sharks dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Newcastle Hunters' 30. They outrebounded Newcastle Hunters 44-32 including 31 on the defensive glass. Quite impressive performance for swingman Jake Wilson (193-88) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 24 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. American swingman Josh Biber (196-91, college: Brown) contributed with 13 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Biber is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Four Sutherland Sharks players scored in double figures. American swingman Dane Suttle (198-89, college: Pepperdine) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and Joel Rauch added 15 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Newcastle Hunters. Sutherland Sharks moved-up to tenth place in League. Loser Newcastle Hunters dropped to the eleventh position with 15 games lost. Sutherland Sharks will face league's second-placed Bankstown Bruins in Condell Park in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Newcastle Hunters will play on the road against Maitland Mustangs (#5) and hope to win that game.
