Regular Season Round 9: Henan - Guizhou 110-104

The biggest surprise took place in Henan where host Henan (7-2) beat league's leader Guizhou (6-3) 110-104 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Guizhou. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Guizhou trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 33-28 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 104-110 at the end of the game. Henan had a 40-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. 27 personal fouls committed by Guizhou helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American-Nigerian center Chris Otule (211-90, college: Marquette) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points, 22 rebounds and 4 blocks (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Nigerian-American point guard Josh-Emmanuel Akognon (180-86, college: CS Fullerton) chipped in 27 points and 9 rebounds. Four Henan players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Central African-American power forward James Mays (206-86, college: Clemson) who recorded a double-double by scoring 41 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds and American point guard Mark Lyons (185-89, college: Arizona, agency: Higher Vision Sports) added 35 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 7 assists respectively. Guizhou's coach Guodong Zhang rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Henan have a solid series of four victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Guizhou at the other side dropped to the second place with three games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. They were replaced at the leadership position by Henan. Guizhou will play next round against Luoyang trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Henan will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Fujian in Fuzhou.
