Regular Season Round 20: SW Slammers - Stirling S. 95-105

There was no surprise in Bunbury where 7th ranked Slammers (12-9) were defeated by fifth ranked Stirling S. (14-9) 105-95 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Stirling S.. Slammers was better in second period 28-25. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Stirling S. won last quarter 30-22. They made 27-of-31 free shots (87.1 percent) during the game. Stirling S. outrebounded Slammers 48-30 including a 32-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Slammers were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international forward Cody Ellis (203-90, college: St.Louis) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 7 assists and the former international forward Rhys Vague (204-96) who added 18 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. Stirling S.'s coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. American guard Tre Nichols (180-89, college: Boise St., agency: SDJ Sports) responded with 28 points and his fellow American import guard Michael Lay (180-83, college: Concordia, OR) scored 24 points. Five Stirling S. and four Slammers players scored in double figures. Stirling S. moved-up to fourth place in League. Loser Slammers keep the seventh position with nine games lost. Stirling S. will face higher ranked Buccaneers (#3) in Wonthella in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Slammers will play at home against Giants (#12) and hope to win that game.
