There was a surprise result when eleventh ranked Newcastle Hunters (3-15) defeated on the road higher ranked Maitland Mustangs (10-8) 85-79 on Saturday. Strangely Maitland Mustangs outrebounded Newcastle Hunters 50-38 including a 24-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Newcastle Hunters made 10 blocks. Maitland Mustangs were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American swingman Dane Suttle (198-89, college: Pepperdine) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 8 rebounds and Jacob Foy who added 21 points and 4 assists during the contest. Four Newcastle Hunters players scored in double figures. American forward Tyler Monroe (201, college: Azusa Pacific) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 27 rebounds and 4 blocks and guard Joshua Clifford (196-88) scored 15 points and 6 rebounds. Newcastle Hunters moved-up to tenth place in League. Loser Maitland Mustangs dropped to the sixth position with eight games lost. Newcastle Hunters will face higher ranked Crusaders (#7) in Terrigal in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
