There was an upset in Belconnen where top-ranked Mount Gambier Pioneers (16-3) were rolled over by seventh ranked Canberra Gunners (4-15) 113-69 on Saturday. The game without a history. Canberra Gunners led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Strangely Mount Gambier Pioneers outrebounded Canberra Gunners 41-27 including 31 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Daniel Joyce (194-87) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 4 assists and center Ben Allen (211-86, college: St.Mary's, CA) who added 12 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Canberra Gunners' coach felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. American forward Daniel Alexander (206-91, college: Grand Canyon, agency: Haylett Sports) responded with 26 points and 6 rebounds and guard Jack Madgen (196-93, college: Delta St.) scored 20 points and 7 rebounds. Five Mount Gambier Pioneers players scored in double figures. Canberra Gunners maintains seventh position in League with 4-15 record. Loser Mount Gambier Pioneers still keep top place with three games lost. Canberra Gunners will face higher ranked NW Tasmania Thunder (#3) in Ulverstone in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Mount Gambier Pioneers will play at home against Bandits and hope to win that game.
