Regular Season Round 14: Verdirrojo - U Atletica 85-83

A very close game took place in Montevideo (derby !!!) between Verdirrojo and Union Atletica. Eleventh ranked Verdirrojo (4-7) got a very close home victory over higher ranked Union Atletica (5-7). Verdirrojo managed to escape with a 2-point win 85-83 on Wednesday evening. Strangely Union Atletica outrebounded Verdirrojo 44-29 including 32 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American guard Gerel Simmons (188-93, college: Lincoln Memorial) who scored 24 points. Forward Santiago Massa (190-96) chipped in 22 points. Four Verdirrojo players scored in double figures. American forward Howard Wilkerson (198-84, college: Wofford) produced a double-double by scoring 27 points and 19 rebounds and forward Gaston Semiglia (192-91) added 33 points (!!!) and 10 assists respectively for the guests. Verdirrojo moved-up to ninth place. Loser Union Atletica dropped to the eighth position with seven games lost.
