There was a small surprise when fourth ranked Power (9-5) defeated 4th placed Flames (8-5) in Townsville 86-69 on Friday. Power dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Flames' 34. Power forced 21 Flames turnovers. Quite impressive performance for American forward Tabatha Richardson-Smith (183, college: Seton Hall) who helped to win the game recording 40 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 5 assists. New Zealand forward Charmian Mellars (182-79) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Forward Darcy Garbin (187-94) answered with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 10 rebounds and guard Mia Murray (184-88) added 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Flames. Flames' coach rotated twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Power maintains fourth place in League with 9-5 record. Loser Flames dropped to the fifth position with five games lost. Power will face SC Rip (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Flames will play against the league's second-placed Logan Thunder (#2) and hope to win that game.
