There was no surprise in Cotton Tree where 12th ranked Maroochydore Clippers (3-9) were edged by eighth ranked Brisbane Spartans (7-8) 94-91 on Saturday. Brisbane Spartans forced 19 Maroochydore Clippers turnovers. The best player for the winners was guard Darryl McDowell-White (185-97, college: Fresno St.) who scored 25 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. Center Ben Volkman (206, college: Maryville, MO) chipped in 20 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Matthew Kenyon (195-98) who recorded a double-double by scoring 20 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists and American guard Breland Hogan (185, college: Grand Valley St.) added 20 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Four Brisbane Spartans and five Maroochydore Clippers players scored in double figures. Despite that victory Brisbane Spartans went down to ninth position (League) due to points difference. Loser Maroochydore Clippers keep the twelfth place with nine games lost. Brisbane Spartans' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Brisbane to the arena Brisbane Capitals.
