Regular Season Round 16: Auriblanco - Verdirrojo 109-92

There was a small surprise when tenth ranked Auriblanco (6-8) beat 8th ranked Verdirrojo (5-8) in Montevideo 109-92 on Tuesday. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 60-42 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Auriblanco made 24-of-28 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Auriblanco outrebounded Verdirrojo 36-24 including 26 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. It was a very good performance for Rodrigo Goncalvez who helped to win the game recording 29 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Center Joaquin Jones (202-97) contributed with 20 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Four Auriblanco players scored in double figures. American guard Gerel Simmons (188-93, college: Lincoln Memorial) replied with 31 points and 7 rebounds and forward Pablo Makanskas (196-90) added 22 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists (made all of his seven free throws) in the effort for Verdirrojo. Verdirrojo's coach Mathias Nieto rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Auriblanco have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Verdirrojo dropped to the tenth position with eight games lost. Auriblanco's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Montevideo to the arena Capitol.
