Regular Season Round 4: Portoviejo - Piratas 88-80

The game in Portviejo was also quite interesting. One of their biggest challengers Piratas (2-2) played at the court of fifth ranked Portviejo (3-1). Portviejo managed to secure a 8-point victory 88-80 on Friday. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 88-80. Portviejo shot 63.3 percent from the field. They shot the lights out from three sinking 16 long-distance shots on high 80.0 percentage. Worth to mention a great performance of international guard Jonathan Arboleda (190-95) who helped to win the game recording 29 points and Adriano Barredas (-92) who added 25 points (perfect from downtown making all five shots) during the contest. Portviejo's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American forward Willie Clayton (203-92, college: Georgia St.) responded with 27 points and Alfredo Salgado (-95) scored 23 points. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Iccan. Piratas at the other side keep the fourth place with two games lost. They share the position with Barcelona and Leones. Portviejo will meet Barcelona (#6) in the next round where they are favorite. Piratas will play against Importadora in Ambato and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
