Regular Season Round 15: Luoyang - Chongqing 126-99
Date: July 28, 2017
There was no surprise when 9th ranked Chongqing (7-8) was crushed on the road by fifth ranked Luoyang (10-5) 126-99 on Friday. The game without a history. Luoyang led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 100 of its points in the paint compared to Chongqing's 72. Luoyang forced 20 Chongqing turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Chongqing's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Luoyang made 11 blocks. It was a great evening for American point guard Russ Smith (183-91, college: Louisville) who led his team to a victory with a triple-double by scoring 52 points (!!!), 10 rebounds, 12 assists and 6 steals (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). South Sudanese-Lebanese center Ater Majok (208-87, college: Connecticut) helped adding 23 points, 15 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 blocks. The best for the losing side was Ukrainian center Vladyslav Koreniuk (210-94, agency: Octagon Europe) with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds and forward Yao Liu (191-89) scored 14 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Luoyang have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Chongqing keeps the ninth position with eight games lost. They share it with Fujian. Luoyang will meet league's second-placed Shaanxi W. in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Chongqing will play against Hunan (#3) in Changsha and hope to secure a win.
