Very important is a road loss of second ranked Barcelona (2-2) against sixth ranked Leones (2-2) on Friday night. Visiting Barcelona was defeated by Leones in a tough game in Riobamba 70-78. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Barcelona. Worth to mention a great performance of Venezuelan center Javinger Vargas (202-90) who helped to win the game recording 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. American forward Corbin Jackson (203-92, college: Florida Tech) contributed with 17 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. Four Leones players scored in double figures. Leones moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Barcelona and Piratas. Leones will play against bottom-ranked Triple E-Uda (#8) in Gualaceo in the next round. Barcelona will play at home against the league's second-placed Portviejo (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
